Factory Parts Versus Aftermarket Parts

When you bring your car into the collision repair shop, you want to make sure that everything is repaired so that your vehicle is back to the same condition it was in prior to the damage. When doing the repairs, your auto body shop can either use Genuine parts or aftermarket parts. Make sure you know the difference so that you are getting exactly what you want.

Genuine Parts

Genuine parts are made and approved by the original manufacturer of the vehicle, and are always the option recommended by car manufacturers. These Genuine parts are called “OEM” which means original equipment manufacturer. Whenever possible, it is a good idea to use these parts since they are designed specifically for use in your vehicle. Genuine OEM parts are also covered by a manufacturer warranty to ensure if something should go wrong, you won’t be the one paying for it. But make sure your OEM parts are not alternative options like rebuilds or salvaged/recycled parts because these are not covered by manufacturer warranties.

Here at Butler Collision Center, we recommend using Genuine parts whenever possible – both for their warranty as well as overall performance.

Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket parts are any parts that are made by a third-party manufacturer for use in various cars. In most cases, these parts are still made to extremely high standards and will perform very well. Sometimes these parts are made so that they will work on multiple different makes and models, and other times they are created just for one type of vehicle. Aftermarket parts are popular in many cases because they are typically less expensive than the Genuine option. If you are looking to save money, or your insurance company will only cover aftermarket parts, aftermarket parts are an option. While we use Genuine parts whenever the situation allows for it, we are happy to work with high-quality aftermarket parts upon your request.
